Pro-Publica just released a map of climate niches based on climate change models from the paper “Future of Climate Niche” published in the National Academy of Science proceedings.

TLDR; it is going to get hot and humid and everyone will be affected.

There are three paths we can take with this information. We can (

1) ignore it, as we have been doing up until last month with the new Biden Administration, and continue with business as usual and literally burn through what is left of the resources on this planet.

2). We can speculate and move to places less affected and preserve our individual selves and family and watch while the rest of all living things face a horrible threat

Or

3). We can do something about it.

I, for one, refuse to give up hope for our planet.

We can save her if we make massive change. The reason we are not all baking right now is because of the polar vortex, the ice caps are melting causing a rush of cold but this will only last a decade or so and then we will feel the effects of the heat. Let’s use that time to take positive action.

We need more trees, to move from fossils fuels to solar power and reduce production of carbon and/or find a means to sequester carbon by biomimicry of photosynthesis.

We need to drop animal products from our diet. It is the most carbon intensive and lowest yield. Even if you aren’t a steward of animals like me and don’t find murdering innocent creatures morally abhorrent, you cannot deny that factory farming is inefficient and wasteful.

We need everyone on board, and we need to do this, not for ourselves, but for future generations.

We can turn this around if we band together to make changes.

I’m not giving up.

Let’s not give up without a fight.
